Pharmacopoeial color standards R-color are used for visual control of the color of liquid medicinal products in accordance with the pharmacopoeial article Ph.Eur.2.2.2 of the European Pharmacopoeia and national pharmacopoeias harmonized with it.

Pharmacopoeial color standards R-color are produced for the following liquid color scales:

  • Brown (B1-B9, R-color-B series)
  • Brownish-yellow (BY1-BY7, R-color-BY series)
  • Yellow (Y1-Y7, R-color-Y series)
  • Greenish-yellow (GY1-GY7, R-color-GY series)
  • Red (R1-R7, R-color-R series)

All series of pharmacopoeial color standards are produced for method I and method II:

  • Method I – 2 ml of liquid in colorless, transparent neutral glass test tubes with an outer diameter of 12 mm. This method is typically used for liquids with a clearly visible color tint. Color is observed perpendicular to the axis of the tube.
  • Method II – 4 cm of liquid poured into flat-bottomed, neutral, transparent glass ampoules with an outer diameter of approximately 17-18 mm. This method is typically used for weakly colored or normally colorless samples. Color is observed along the axis of the ampoule.
